What is gold filled?
What is “gold filled”?
Gold filled jewellery is a base metal with a mechanically bonded layer of gold. I’ve made a little diagram below for you!
How long does it last?
Gold filled jewellery can last a life time. There are many pieces from the Victorian era (More than 100 years old!) which were gold filled and are still around today in fantastic condition.
Will it tarnish?
Gold filled jewellery should not tarnish for a long time and does not tarnish easily. We do include a polishing cloth for when your jewellery eventually needs a little shine.
Is it made from real gold?
Yes! The outer layer is a thick tube of solid gold (we use 14ct gold in our pieces) which encases the base metal. Unlike plated jewellery this will not wear off and is mechanically bonded to the base layer.
Is it good quality?
Gold filled is the next best thing to solid gold as it’s high quality and durable. It will not flake off, turn your skin green and is a fantastic option for people with skin allergies.
Can I wear it to bed?
I recommend you only wear our single pearl or gemstone earrings to bed to avoid any snagging whilst you’re asleep. Sleeping in your jewellery won’t cause it to tarnish or damage the stones.
Can I wear it in the shower?
This depends on your shampoos and shower gels. If you use an acidic face wash for example I would avoid wearing it in the shower. Mild shampoos and soaps are fine to come in contact with your jewellery and will even keep it clean.
